The picking room, which Mas formerly in the main building, is now outside 'in a building erected for that special pur pose ami contains all the machinery adapted for sucli uses. Tlie additional room given by the building being one story highe r than the former one, "adds greatly to the convenience of carrying on the business, ant 1 it is fully expected that, with the improved machinery .tlie Company will be able to increase their productions over any previous year. School, 1'xamixation. h riday, J11I3 11th, was gala day for the people of School District No. 17, it being the day set apart for the closing exercises of Mrs. Lucy Martin's school. At an ear ly hour boxes and baskets could have been seen moving toward a cleared place in the grove near by, and at pre cisely 12 o'clock teacher "and scholars ami friends were invited out to the grove where they beheld one of the most templing leasts ever spread in this place bo tore them. Immediately after the dinner the bell rang for the exercises to begin. First, a song by the scholars accompanied by Chai lesMc Leran 011 the organ; next, prayer bv Uev. J. H. Martjii, after which there were upward of imy speeches and dia logues spoken by the scholars, accom panied at proper intervals bv singing and music. At the close, tlie parents and children were addressed fi.riitteen or twenty minutes by Uev. . I. II. Mar tin. Everything passed off pleasantly and all seemed to think that it was a uay well spent.
